Description
Advanced Piloting extends navigation concepts learned in piloting and introduces several new ones such as: waypoint navigation;
positions determined using vertical and horizontal sextant angles; interpolation of tidal information at secondary ports;
vector solution to tidal current problems; running fixes obtained by advanced lines of position; introduction to GPS, LORAN and RADAR.
Although modern electronic equipment makes piloting easier, it still needs to be supplements with competence and accuracy in
chart work to standards recognized in the marine industry. As sessions progress, your knowledge is continuously applied to an intricate,
in class cruise through West Coast waters - an assignment that must be completed and submitted before the final exam is written.
